On April 28, 2022, H.E. Chinese Ambassador Hu Zhangliang, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone, donated a batch of food and non-food items to the needy Muslim groups through the Ministry of Social Welfare of the Republic of Sierra Leone. Hon. Minister of Social Welfare Mme. Baindu Dassama graced the handover ceremony.

The donated items include 20 tons of rice, 5 tons of flour, 1,000 liters of cooking oil, 400 kgs of sugar and 8000 surgical facial masks, which were received by Inter Religious Council, United Council of Imams, Supreme Islamic Council and Sierra Leone Muslim Congress for further donation to the needy Muslim community.

On receiving the donation, Hon. Minister Mme. Baindu Dassama and the Muslim leaders thanked the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone for its continued support. They acclaimed that this donation is a great Eid al-Fitr gift for the Muslims in Sierra Leone. They assured that the donated items will be delivered to their intended destinations as soon as possible.

Ambassador Hu said that this donation is a vivid reflection of China-Sierra Leone friendship. He thanked Hon. Minister Dassama and the Muslim leaders for their support and coordination. He also expressed his good wishes through the Muslim groups to the Muslim brothers and sisters in Sierra Leone and wished them a happy Eid al-Fitr in advance.

Ambassador Hu introduced to the Honorable Minister and the religious leaders the development of Islam and the state of life of the Muslims in China. He reminded them that the rumours fabricated and spread by certain western forces about China's policy toward Muslims are ill-intentioned and misleading. He wished that the Sierra Leone friends would be able to go to China and see for themselves the realities after the COVID-19 pandemic.
