On July 24, 2023, the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone and UNFPA jointly held the launching ceremony of the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund "Improving Maternal Medical Services and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment".
Ambassador Wang Qing said in his speech that medical and health cooperation has always been the focus and highlight of China- Sierra Leone friendly cooperation. The cooperation between China and Sierra Leone and UN agencies under the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund has further expanded and deepened the connotation of China- Sierra Leone medical and health cooperation. China will continue to support Sierra Leone's efforts to improve public health and promote the building of a China-Africa community with a shared future.
Minister of Health and Sanitation, Dr. Demby and the UNFPA country representative, Mrs. Nadia Rasheed spoke highly of China's efforts to help Sierra Leone improve public health and looked forward to more cooperation projects with China.
Since the implementation of the project in 2020, 9 service points have been established in Sierra Leone. At the launch ceremony, Chinese experts from Hunan Maternal and Child Health Hospital, officials from the Ministry of Health and Sanitation of Sierra Leone and the UNFPA Representative Office inSierra Leone respectively introduced the progress and main achievements of the project.
