The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Sierra Leone together with the Ministry of Defence (MOD) on 29th May, 2023 jointly organized a ceremony to bid farewell to the 6th Chinese Military Medical Expert Group(CMMEG) attached to the 34 Military Hospital in Freetown. Ambassador Wang Qing, Deputy Minister of Defense Mauna Massaquoi, Chief of Defense Staff Lieutenant General Peter Lavahun and other guests were in attendance.

Ambassador Wang applauded the CMMEG for their efforts in helping the Sierra Leonean prevent and control COVID-19 as well as upgrade the software and hardware of Infectious Diseases Surveillance System. Ambassador Wang positively appraised the CMMEG's contribution to deepening the cooperation between the two countries and the two militaries, saying that China will continue to deepen the traditional friendship between China and Sierra Leone, promote the friendly cooperation between the two countries and the two militaries, and work together to build a China-Africa community with a shared future.

Deputy Minister Massaquoi spoke highly of the positive role played by the CMMEG in improving the medical and health level of Sierra Leone and facilitating the cooperation between the two countries and the two militaries, and sincerely thanked the Chinese People's Liberation Army for its selfless help to the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces.

The event was ended with distributions of certificates of appreciation to all CMMEG members and a group photo of all dignitaries present at the ceremony.
