The Opening Ceremony of the 8th Chinese Military Medical Expert Group (CMMEG) and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) - Defence Medical Services (DMS) jointly hold Medical Training and Education Programme was conducted on Tuesday 13 May 2025 at the Myohaung Officers’Mess, Wilberforce Barracks Freetown.
Snr. Col. PU Lin, Defence Attaché of the Embassy, Brigadier General SDT Ngaujah, Chief of General Staff - RSLAF, Directors of the RSLAF - DMS and representatives of the Ministry of Health and the National Public Health Agency of Sierra Leone attended and delivered a speech. About 200 people from the Sierra Leone military and civilian health services attended. This is the first time that CMMEG and RSLAF have jointly organized a medical skills training program covering the whole country of Sierra Leone. It is expected that about 2,000 people will participate in this six-month training.
Snr. Col. PU Lin stated that the training aims to deepen the medical cooperation between the two militaries. In response to the current Mpox epidemic in Sierra Leone, The Embassy specially invited Chinese infectious disease prevention and control expert Academician Wang Fusheng and others to give online lectures to enhance Sierra Leone's ability to respond to the epidemic. Brigadier General SDT Ngaujah stated that China has become a pillar for strengthening Sierra Leone's health care system and expressed gratitude to the Chinese military doctors who are fighting against the Mpox virus.
At the ceremony, the CMMEP donated medicines, protective supplies and training materials for the prevention and treatment of Mpox epidemics to RSLAF.
