On January 13th, Ambassador Zhao Yong paid a courtesy visit on the Hon. Speaker Segepoh Soloman Thomas, discussing the bilateral relations and the exchanges between the legislative bodies of the two countries.

Ambassador Zhao stated that the traditional friendship between China and Sierra Leone has endured and grown stronger over time. In recent years, under the strategic guidance of the two Heads of State, practical cooperation in various fields has yielded fruitful results. With the launching of 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchange, China is willing to work with Sierra Leone to further enhance communication and exchanges between the two countries’ legislative bodies, solidifying the foundation of public support from people for the cooperation between China and Sierra Leone. 

Speaker Thomas warmly welcomed Ambassador Zhao’s assumption of office and stated that the Sierra Leonean Parliament attaches great importance to developing relations with China and firmly adheres to the one-China principle. Sierra Leone looks forward to further promoting exchanges between the two parliaments and strengthen exchanges on governance and administration experience.
