Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund supported "Accelerating Newborn and Child Health in Sierra Leone " Project Successfully Launched

On April 30, 2026, the project "Accelerating Newborn and Child Health in Sierra Leone for improved survival and Well-being", supported by the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund(GDF) and implemented by UNICEF, was launched in Sierra Leone. Mr. Wang Peng, Counselor in charge of commercial and economic cooperation of the Chinese Embassy, Dr. Charles Senessie, Deputy Minister of Health of Sierra Leone, and Mr. Rudolf Schwenk, the UNICEF Representative in Sierra Leone attended and delivered speeches.

Counsellor Wang Peng stated that this project will continuously strengthen Sierra Leonean national neonatal medical service system and actively improve the well-being of Sierra Leonean women and children. China would like to make joint efforts with Sierra Leone to continuously deepen South-South cooperation, and promote the common development of both countries.

Minister Senessie expressed his heartfelt gratitude to China for its consistent support of Sierra Leonean health sector, reviewed the great success of previous projects, and encouraged Sierra Leonean personnel to make active use of the resources provided by the project to improve the level of medical services.

Following the launch ceremony, all relevant parties held an enrollment ceremony for the nurses participating in the "Post-Basic Certificate in Neonatal Nursing" Training Program supported by the project.
