On June 11, 2026, a handover ceremony of the Project “Improved Public Service Facilities for Youth in Sierra Leone”, funded by the China Government's Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), was held in Freetown，the capital of Sierra Leone. Ambassador Zhao Yong, Dr Ramatulai Kamara Wurie, the Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Conrad Sackey, the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, and Fredrick Ampiah, the UNDP Country Representative and more than 100 representatives of Sierra Leonean primary and secondary school students attended the ceremony.

Ambassador Zhao Yong stated that educational cooperation is an important component of the friendly cooperation between China and Sierra Leone. The desks and chairs donated this time will effectively improve the school conditions and learning environment for local students in Sierra Leone. China will continue to deepen the traditional friendship between China and Sierra Leone, so that more young people in Sierra Leone can benefit from the achievements of China-Sierra Leone cooperation.

The Sierra Leone expressed its sincere gratitude to China for handing over the desks and chairs, highly recognized the project's effectiveness, and looked forward to continuously expanding cooperation with China in the field of education.
