2026-06-22 19:48

On June 18, 2026, the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone hosted an Open Day event. Over 30 student and teacher representatives from Freetown Secondary School for Girls, Annie Walsh Memorial School, Prince of Wales Secondary School, and the Confucius Institute at the University of Sierra Leone visited the embassy to experience traditional Chinese culture. H.E. ZHAO Yong, Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, attended the event and delivered remarks.

Ambassador Zhao noted that this year marks the “China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges.” He emphasized that while Chinese culture is extensive and profound, Sierra Leonean culture is equally vibrant and unique. He expressed hope that the participants would enhance mutual understanding and foster genuine friendship.

The atmosphere was lively and friendly. Students watched a video on the cultural significance of the Dragon Boat Festival and took part in DIY activities such as making zongzi (sticky rice dumplings), painting eggs, and weaving five-color bracelets.
