On August 20, 2026, the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone hosted a Media Open Day. Representatives from more than 20 leading media outlets, including the Independent Media Commission, the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists and the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation took part in the Program. Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone Zhao Yong attended the event and delivered remarks.

Ambassador Zhao noted that, over the 55 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China and Sierra Leone have respected and supported each other, and their traditional friendship has grown ever stronger. Mutually beneficial cooperation across various fields has yielded fruitful results.

He expressed the hope that Sierra Leonean media professionals would serve as witnesses to the real China, communicators of friendship between the two peoples and defenders of China-Sierra Leone friendship. He also encouraged them to tell more stories of win-win cooperation and close friendship between the two countries .

The event was held in a warm atmosphere. Media representatives watched a documentary on people-to-people exchanges commemorating the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations, and shared their experiences of visiting China.
