On September 17, 2020, the Special Baby Care Unit (SBCU) at Kailahun District Hospital was officially launched. H.E. Ambassador Hu Zhangliang joined Hon. Minister of Health and Sanitation Dr. Alpha Wurie, Country Representative of UNICEF Dr. Suleiman Braimoh and other dignitaries in the inauguration ceremony through video link.

Aimed at improving maternal and baby care services in Sierra Leone, the SBCU is a tripartite cooperation project between China, UNICEF and Sierra Leone supported by China Assistance Fund for South-South Cooperation.
